What is Gorean role-play?
Gorean role-play is the event of adults interacting within the guiding principles, philosophies and environment of the Gorean world as described in the books by John Norman. By assuming the role of a Gorean Man, Woman or slave, we can explore a society based on strict hierarchies and gender dominance. We can experience the responsibility of a Free Man or Free Woman as they strive for excellence amid the high expectations of their peers. We can feel the heat and abandon of the female slaves who have embraced the natural submission of their gender and yearn to be owned with complete totality. Through this role-play we can "be Gorean"; as Goreans we place a set of expectations on ourselves and our fellow role-players. What are the specific rules for role-play in Thentis?
The role-play in Thentis follows a post-for-post style; meaning each person takes turns "posting" the text of their actions in the room. We do not allow "forced posts"; meaning the person you are interacting with must consent to the result of the action. As an example: You can throw a vase at someone's head; but you cannot throw a vase at someone's head and insist that it has actually hit it's mark. So to avoid "forced posts", we try to keep most things open ended - allowing for the other person to add their actions and re-actions to the mix. How can I join the City of Thentis and/or JAG?
It is not necessary to purchase a JAG membership in order to role-play in Thentis. All you need to do is choose a name and log in at the top of this page. To be a pledged citizen of Thentis, you must claim a caste and interact with us for a period of time and then your pledge will be sought and accepted. Citizenship is renewed through periodic pledges and citizenship can end amicibly, but irreversibly, with an Oath of Disownment. Membership to JAG will allow you to create your own rooms, use a colored handle, and various other cool tools.
What is the climate in Thentis?
We believe that Thentis is the only region in all of Gor where the precious black wine beans can be grown. This is because of our climate and because of the strain of black wine that exists on Gor. Simply, black wine is an expensive and rare drink which is produced only in Thentis. It's much like coffee on Earth, but stronger (think espresso or Turkish Coffee). Thentis strictly limits the trade of black wine in JAG, making our stocks and shipments a common target for raiders. For that reason, we keep all our large stocks of black wine in the trading post known as Fort Haskins. There the beans can be protected and our sleen patrols can hunt out smugglers.What are tarn races?Our monopoly on the black wine trade gives our city fame and fortune. Yet even in Thentis a cup can be as expensive as 2 silver tarsks and is often only served in high caste homes. We do allow visitors to our main hall to drink black wine "on the house", but every where else in Thentis it will cost you! Black wine is regulated by Merchant Law and we have documented quality standards for the beverage.
Thentis is the "City of Tarns", these hawk-like birds are massive enough to carry a man to war. Lighter birds are used for tarn races. In Thentis we use the hyperchat "roll die" feature to randomly determine the result of the tarn race. You can be killed in a tarn race, just by a series of unfortunate die rolls.
